Measles Epidemic Past Peak

After having been in possession of town and district tor more than two months, the measles epidemic in Whangarei at last seems to have passed its peak and is c-n die wane, according to information given to a ‘'Northern Advocate'' representative by the district Medical Officer of Health. Dr. C. B. Gilbcrd, this morning. Reviewing the position as affecting Northland as a whole. Dr. Gilbcrd said he had received telegraphic information which seemed to indicate that the worst phase of the outbreak had passed. Mainly in Mild Form. Reports covering the past week stated that there were few European cases in North Hoklanga, those in evidence being of a mild nature. Measles were prevalent in the Bay of Islands, but in a mild form only. There were in cases in Whangaroa. In Northern Wairoa, the epidemic was still present fn a mild form. In Whangarei itself, Dr. Giiberd said, the number of new cases seemed to be definitely decreasing. At the local schools, more pupils who had recovered from the sickness were returning each day., and, with the ex- ! ception of such schools as that at Whangarei Heads, which had been kept closed on account of whooping cough, the country schools which had had to be closed were reopening. Public Co-operation. Dr. Giiberd expressed gratification at an increased measure of public cooperation, stating that a number of inquiries and requests for advice were being received from schools and from parents with affected children.
