The Business and Professional Women’s Round Table Club hold their fortnightly meeting on Tuesday of this week in Mrs McKinstry’s tearooms. The speaker for the evening was Mrs Hollingworth. who gave a most interesting talk on Ceylon. The history of the many peoples who had inhabited Ceylon, from very early days through the centuries right up to the present day. was traced in an intriguing fashion. Mrs Hollingworth. who has lived in Ceylon for many years, described in her inimitable way the many pitfalls which lie in wait for idle hands. Climate and an abundance of servants wore problems which had n great effect on one’s life in that most beautiful of islands. Miss Bain moved a hearty vote of thanks, which was carried enthusiastically. The Lyceum held their usual Thursday meeting, at which it was decided that a Nursing Division be formed and, if possible, lectures in first aid be taken for the rest of this year. Individual members were busy dressing dolls and making preparations for a mother and daughter banquet to be held in the club rooms on Tuesday next. The Citizens spent the first period of their evening playing games. After the usual business meeting the larger part of the evening was spent making woolly toys. Gym. girls still display much enthusiasm in spite of adverse weather conditions. At the conclusion of the class, plans were made for table decorations for the Mother and Daughter banquet at which all clubs except citizens would be present.
