Ladies’ Gardening Club
Monday, July 18. was “Members’ day” at the Ladies’ Gardening Club, when the members entertained the committee. Mrs Nicholls presided, and a most enjoyable programme was presented. The first item was a poem by Mrs D. E. Tyson, of Kamq, and which was read by Mrs Carter. This was followed by short talks by Miss Carruth and Mrs Dunford on making a cutting bed. and points on growing shrubs respectively. Mrs Given continued the programme with an interesting talk on layering, and Miss Clark-Walker gave a fascinating lecture on rubber planting in Ceylon, showing pictures and samples of rubber to illustrate her remarks. Mrs A. R. Pickmeve spoke on “The Garden Escaping.” an interesting account of plants brought to New. Zealand from foreign countries as great prizes, and which became nuisances. Mrs Carter concluded the list of items with a reading on “A Blue Garden.” The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Alexander, Birdling. J, M, Clark, E. A. Bates and Miss Carruth
