Anti-Trust Prosecutions

(Received 12.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 21. Individual producers mentioned in the civil anti-trust suit filed by the Justice Department against eight major motion picture producers and other industrialists yesterday are Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pi'ckford. In a statement, Mr Will Hays, president of Motion Picture Products and Distributors of America, defended the industry against the Government’s charges that competition was stifled. “Not merely the methods, but much of the structure of the industry is the result of necessity,” said Mr Hays. “It welcomes the prospect of a comprehensive, fair and conclusive endeavour to clarify the application of the existing law to the trade customs inherent of the development of the motion picture industry.”
