S. African Wins Irish Chamionship
(Received 11.30 a.mj LONDON, July 21. The 24-year-old South African golf player, A. D. “Bobby” Locke, won the Irish open golf championship by one stroke from T. H. Cotton, with an aggregate of 292. The championship was played .at Portmarnock, the length of which is 7280 yards, the longest championship course in the world. The standard score is 75. Locke’s rounds were 80, 73, 69 and 70. It was a remarkable finish after his poor opening round. Cotton’s total was 293. On Monday and Tuesday next, at Walton Heath, Locke and Cid Brews will play a challenge match, for a stake of £SOO, against Cotton and R. A. Whitcombe, recent winner of the British open title. The South Africans issued the challenge to Cotton two months ago, and it was left to Cotton to choose his partner.
