Employment in Factories
l Per Press Association. Copyright.] WELLINGTON. This Day. Commenting on the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation’s claim that high costs were leading to shortening of stall’ in manufacturing concerns, the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, stated to-day that what he said about additional employees in industry was correct. It was inevitable that there should be a slackening in some industries during the winter, but it was a mere quibble to seize upon that as evidence of a decline in production. It was correct that there were 25,000 more per-
sons employed in factories now than when he came into office. “To-day" meant March 31. when the last figures wore compiled. Anyone with an ounce of commonsense knew he meant that when he gave the figures.
