Old Boys Flattered
Outplayed by Kamo for the greater part of the game, Old Boys finished strongly to score three tries in the last , ten minutes and win 14 —3. The score was flattering to the all-whites who were shortly all blacks. Scores were level until Sam Alison charged through a line-out, and, with a dumber of limpet-like Kamo attendants, crashed over the line. That was definitely the turning point, add the Kamo defence, which had hitherto been sound, crumpled badly.
Well-placed, centre kicks by W. Alison paved the way for both of the last tries. Quinlan gained his by sheer pace, shooting past the opposing winger and leaving himself with an open field. The Old Boys backs followed fast on the second occasion, being up to retrieve the ball which was sent out for Rika to score. Kamo’s Territorial Advantage. In the early stages of the game Kamo did most of the pressing, their forwafds holding the upper hand and Heta, who was here, there and everywhere, infusing their back divison
with vim. After Tapper had fumbled, Chisholm. forward recruit, ran strongly but his pass was held up at the lasi moment. Finally Kamo was iawarded with quiio a good try. the ball travelling out to the centre, for Arnos to draw his man, and reverse pars in Heta. who love through,. Daniels' kick was a mud-cuilor. Losing three-nil at half-time. Old Boys became more assertive although their handl .ig was not good, even for a greasy ball. Kamo were napping when the ball came from the ride of a handy scrum to Smith, who went over without being touched. Tapper's kick, a good .one, sailed wide. The visitors were unlucky not to score on several occasions in the play which followed but Saul finally relieved for Old Roys with a long kick. If was then, that Sant Alison barged through for Ids try, changing the whole complexion of the game. Mr R. Stevenson refereed.
