I Admitting that when a cow which he was milking kicked him twice on the knee, he had lost his temper, and, [picking up a piece of iron piping, had j struck the animal, breaking its leg, | Eric Homer Mullinger, farm hand, was j convicted of cruelty to animals, at the | Kaikohe Police Court, j The cow, valued at £lO, was desi trcyed. and Mulliniger stated that he lhad paid £5 to his employer, Mr Wilj liam Riaikes, of Titirsngi, the amount ] having been accepted as final comI I pensaticn. | Constable McNutt stated that this j type of offence, which was hard to i put down, was viewed seriously by j the authorities. Cruelty to animals j was much too common, and in view of | the generally apathetic attitude regarding such ill-treatment, he asked j for the imposition of a heavy penalty, j The presiding Justices, Messrs./j. J. | Bedg'gocd and T. Moor, fined Mullinger £6/10/-, with costs 10/-, and warned him against the danger of allowing his temper to control his actions.
