POPULATION INCREASE OF 210 HERE
Whangarei’s population increased naturally during 1937 by 210. which is the largest increase since 1935, when the increase was 214. The total number of births registered at the Whangarei office in 1937 was 354. Deaths totalled 144, and marriages 123. Marriages by the registrar numbered 31. as against 29 in 1936. The number of births shows nearly an average of one a day throughout the year. Comparative figures are as follows: 1933 1934 1935 1936 1937 Births .... 297 318 300 332 354 Deaths .... 145 118 96 162 144 Marriages 114 120 128 154 123 The number of marriages showed a considerable decline on the figures for 1936. Maori figures for the year were; Births 36 (43), deaths 20 (16).
