CYCLONIC STORM AT AUCKLAND
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Almost without warning, heavy rain, accompanied by a strong northerly wind, swept Auckland on Saturday afternoon. From 4 o’clock, the storm continued almost throughout the night Few people were prepared for the downpour, which resulted from a change in the direction of the high wind at about 4 p.m. All form of sport were suspended when the deluge arrived, although the North Shore games were continued until after 5 o’clock. At the Western Springs camping ground, motorists in tents escaped lightly. No flooding occurred in the night, the water being x'apidly absorbed by the dry. porous soil in the vicinity. At some of the East Coast beaches, however, campers were not so fortunate.
