Anniversary Of Menzies' Tasman Flight
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the first solo flight across the Tasman Sea, made by Mr Guy Menzies, Sydney, a young member of the New South Wales. Aero Club, in 1931. An Avro Avian sports biplane, the Southern Cross Junior, boro him from Sydney to Hari Hari, West Coast, in 12 hours .12 minutes, for 1066 miles.
He landed in a swamp under the mistaken impression that it was firm and level ground.
