A Native Tree Remedy
. This receipe has been supplied by Mrs R. Marcin, head teacher of Waitapu Native School, Rangi Point, Opononi. Mrs Martin has made n special study of native herbs, and our confidence in her is such that we intend to try the receipe ourselves. Taereiore, if you are in doubt, wait a fortnight and we will tell you our experience.
KARAMU TONIC
(For Backache or Kidney Troubles.) Collect leaves on sprigs of fresh Karamu. Boil in an enamel pot. Quantity according to pot (a small lot in a small pot).,lt is advisable to boil in small lots—say. about one and ahalf pints.
Put the Karamu in the pot, and fill with cold water until you can just see it below the leaves (not level). Put on the fire and, as soon as It comes to the boil, put to the side and simmer for 20 or 30 minutes.
Strain through a cloth; it is then leacly to take.
Dose:—A quarter of a cup, taken any time you need it; say, three to four limes a day. It can be warmed or taken cold. Cover well.
