FRUITS NOW RIPE, Previously advised:— Kotukutuku, Kohuhu, Karo, Kareao, Earamu, Kovorniko, Manuka, Puriri, Pittosporum, Cornifolium, Nikau, Forokaiwhiri, Rata, Taraire, Tnrata and Whauwhaupaku. Just finished:—Kahikatea, Miro, Towai, Tawa and Titoki. In very shady places you may still find ripe fruit of maire-tawake, but it is just about finished. New fruits:—Spiderwood (Dracophyllum), Mapou (Suttonia Australis). Tataramoa (Rubis Australis). Toropapa (Alsonosmia macrophylla), Korokio (Corokia buddleoides), Turutu Dianella intermedia), Rimu (Dacfychum cupressinum) is just beginning to ripen. Kowhai is also beginning to ripen; also Clematis, although this is very early for it. There is a small green caterpillar very common in Clematis seed this year—it cats the seed and gives the fruit, at first sight, the ap•pearance of being ripe, so examine your clematis fruit carefully.
