Whangarei Building Inspector Appointed
From 35 applicants, the Whangarei Borough Council last night appointed Mr Howard Alexander Brugh, of Dunedin, to be building. ’ plumbing and drainage inspector.
The legal and finance committee had reduced the number to six. In committee last night, the council further narrowed the field down to three, and then to two, before making the final decision.
Mr Brugh was educated at the Otago Boys High School and King Edward Technical College. He took a science course at Otago University, and required one subject to complete his
degree. In 1924 he was apprenticed as a carpenter and joiner, and helped in the construction of many largo buildings, as well as private residences, receiving a thorough all-round grounding in building construction. In the North Island ho entered into carpentering on his own account before leaving for Australia, where he followed the trade for two years in Sydney and "Brisbane. Immediately after the earthquake in 1931 he went to Napier and assisted in the rebuilding of the town. Then, re-
turning to Dunedin, he set up as a builder and contractor on his own account. Mr Brugh is 31 years of age and is married. He is a light-heavyweight boxer of talent and holds many medals and trophies for amateur competition. The new inspector v/ill commence duties in Whangarei early next year.
