DOUBLE TIE IN LOCAL MILITARY CONTEST

i A double tie resulted in the annual : inter-unit competition between the , two branches of the Whangarei mili- : tary forces held in the Drill Hall last evening. I Results of the various events were: Machine-gun teams competition.— N.A.M.R. (7 points) 1, Ist Btn N.A. Regt., 3 points, 2. Machine-gun stoppages competition. —lst Btn N.A. Regt., 7 points, 1; N.A.- ! M.R., 3 points, 2. Excellent work was done by both units. N.C.O.’s fire order competition (7 j —N.A.M.R., 6 points, 1; Ist j Btn, N.A. Regt, 2 and 3 (awarded four I points). Shooting competition, .22 in. rifle (six teams entered). —Ist Btn N.A. Regt, 6 points, 1; N.A.M.R., 4 points, 2 I and 3. The leading teams scored remarkably well and there were two possibles. The competition showed 20 points to each unit. The first and second teams in the rifle shooting match, shot off to decide who should hold the Military Boxing Association Challenge Cup for the year, but this resulted in a further tie. It was, therefore, decided that the cup be held on behalf of both units at Defence Headquarters, Whangarei, this year. In the previous three competitions for the trophy, the Ist Battalion North , Auckland Regiment had been success- : ful on each occasion. The N.A.M.R. draws part of its < machine-gun troop and part of its 1 signal troop from Whangarei, while ( the Ist Battalion North Auckland ( Regiment , draws a machine-gun j platoon and part of its newly formed £ motor cycle platoon from Whangarei.
