INFANTILE PARALYSIS

Three cases of infantile paralysis, including one in Christchurch, were reported today to the district medical officer of health for Canterbury and Westland.

The city case is a girl, aged five, living at Linwood. No paralysis is evident. The other two cases were reported from Waitawa, near Pleasant Point, and from Greymouth, both being boys of eight and nine respectively.

Thq school attended by thee last named patient has been closed until after the Easter holidays, and the classes at the school attended by the Christchurch victim have been dispersed for a similar period. / LEVIN.—The 'first positive case of irtfantile paralysis in the Horowhenua district during the present epidemic has been admitted to hospital. The patient is a six-year-old Maori girl from Shannon, suffering from slight paralysis of the right arm. Several days ago she came in contact with a girl from the Manawatu district, who was subsequently taken to hospital with the disease.

As a precautionary measure, the Shannon School has been closed. In addition, 70 school pupils from Shannon, travelling from to Levin, have been stopped.

HASTINGS.-—Another case of infantile paralysis was reported to the health authorities in Hastings during the 24 hours ended noon yesterday, making the total for the town and district nine. The latest victim is a three-year-old girl and a contact of one of the cases reported earlier in the week.

NAPIER. —The first case of infantile paralysis was reported in Napier yesterday afternoon, being a boy two years old.
