A hurricane is expected to strike •the Auckland Province tonight according to a special warning issued by the Government meteorologist, Dr. 'Kidston, this morning. This is the cyclone merf)tiortedi in the “Advocate” yesterday as likely to cross the track of the survey Clipper if she decided to fly to Auckland from Kingman Reef, via Pago Pago. Pan-American Airways meteorologi,cal reports are entirely in agreement with the statement issued by Dr. Kidson. The following telegram was received ■ this morning by Captain Sergeant, harbourmaster, from Dr. Kidson: Special squall warning. A cyclone, moving rather rapidly from the north, is approaching Norfolk .Island, and will be affecting the Auckland Province before morning. Expect stormy weather with east to north-east gales to strong gales; heavy rain, floods, and abnormal tides. A change to south-westerly gales in the v north on Friday night. Kidson’s storm warnings, Captain Sergeant, the Auckland harbour master, said that when Auckland experienced the big blow in February last year, no warning was received. “Such warnings as the one received today is of great value,” he said. “I am transmitting it to shipping as quickly as possible. It, indicates that the Meteorological Office is alive to its duty, and is instituting a service that v/ill be greatly appreciated by seamen and others.”
