KERIKERI BRANCH MEETS,

The monthly meeting of the Kerikeri branch.of- the. W.D.F.U., was held on Thursday; July 2. Mrs R. F. Cleave was in the chair. Many useful and amusing articles were forthcoming in the competition held, in which members had to ■ taring something for the jumble sale. Mrs W. Roberts’ three cloth toys were given first place. It was decided to donate the sum of £1 towards the Kerikeri School water fund.

A long discussion took place concerning a remit from the Wairarapa, which mooted that the Government be -urged to reduce the duties on citrus fruits so as to bring them within the reach of New Zealand people, and as a result of this discussion it was decided to forward a recommendation to Mrs Lane, the Northern delegate to the W.D.F.U. Dominion Conference, stating that the Kerikeri branch recommended that the conference urge the Government to discriminate between oranges, and lemons in their classification of citrus fruits, and that while the Kerikeri branch was fully in accord with the removal of duty on imported .oranges, the lemon industry should remain protected, as at present, as the output of New Zealand-grown lemons 'was sufficient to supply the whole of the Dominion for nine months of the year. , The meeting closed with afternoon [ tea served by Mrs Ward, who was hostess for the day.
