ORGANISED INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

PERMANENT BODY TO BE SET UP

[Special to "Northern Advocate .”l AUCKLAND, This Day. The establishment of a Bureau of Industry, a permanent body to assist the Government to explore and examine every possible avenue for organised development, and to ensure collaboration in all section of the State’s activities for the development of the Dominion was announced today in an interview by Mr H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Employment. The Bureau of Industry-will consist of administrative officers and experts at present in the State’s employ, associated with all phases of national development. The Industries Development Board will function as part of the Bureau of Industry. “For the purpose of securing complete liaison with Cabinet,” said the Minister, “the functions of this section of the administration will be carried out under the guidance and direction of a special committee of Cabinet Ministers, consisting of the Ministers of Finance, Industries and Commerce and Labour. The most important functions will be to organise and survey the necessary procedure for the expansion of industrial development in every direction, to examine and report on all projects that are formulated with the hope of assistance from the Government.

“The step does not involve any increase in administrative costs.” The Minister said that, in addition, it was intended to utilise advantages of the proposed bureau, through expert sub-committees, for helpful consultative contact with the representatives of labour and industry, and for examining any proposals submitted to it. These proposals do not require legislative enactment, as full statutory provision already exists.
