NAZI LEADER ASSASSINATED

YUGO SLAV STUDENT SURRENDERS

(Received 2.30 p.m.) ZURICH, February 4.

Wilhelm Gustloff, a German subject, and leader of the Swiss Nazis, was assassinated in his home at Davos, being struck with five bullets. The alleged assassin, David Frankfurter* a 26-year-old Yugo-Slav medical student, surrendered to the police, stating that he broke into Gustloff’s home and committed murder, because of his hatred of Nazi-ism.

Swiss Socialists have repeatedly asked for the expulsion of Gustloff, alleging that not only was he a Nazi leader but also an agent-provocateur, and formerly published a German newspaper in Switzerland, which was suppressed in retaliation for a German ban on certain Swiss newspapers. The police state that Frankfurter went to Gustloff’s house, explaining that he wanted to discuss important business. Frau Gustloff showed him into the drawing-room, where her husband was shot immediately he entered.

Frankfurter says he is not a Communist and committed the murder on his own initiative.
