CHARTERS MEETS ANDREWS IN FINAL [Special to "Northern Advocate.”] PALMERSTON N„ This Day. Excellent weather has so far favoured the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s annual tourney, but rain commenced to fall last night, and this may hold up play today. In the men’s championship singles semifinals, E. D. Andrews (England) beat N. Smith (Wellington), B—6, 6—l. and J. C. Charters (Wellington) beat D. Ccombe (Wellington), B—6,8 —6, 6—l. In the ladies’ championship singles Miss D. Nicholls (Wellington) beat Miss MacFarlane (Auckland), 6 —l, 7—5. and Miss N. Beverley (Matamata) beat Miss Ramsay (Auckland), 6_4, 6—4.
The men’s championship doubles semi-finals were won by Coombe and Charters, who beat D. I. and J. C. Robertson, 5—7, 6—2. 6—3. and N. Sturt and N, Smith, who beat Pearce and Dyer. 6—4. 7—5. Those who have reached the semifinals of the ladies’ championship doubles include Misses MacFarlane and Ramsay (Auckland) and Misses M. and N. Beverley (Matamata).
