KAIKOHE. On Saturday evening, residents of Kaikohe and district farewelled Mr A. L. Hutton. Mr Hutton, who has been headmaster of the Kaikohe Public School for the past six years, has been transferred to the Mercer district. During Mr Hutton’s term of office at Kaikohe School, matters'' have progressed in all directions. Recently the District High School was 'Started, and Mr Hutton was one of the prime movers in this, realising the need for higher education in the district. The school baths were built largely as a result of the keenness of Mr Hutton, who realised that every child should be able to, swim. One of his foremost interests was the Kaikohe branch of the W.E.A., and on many subjects Mr Hutton was quite an authority. At Saturday night’s function, Mr Clive Cameron, the chairman of the Kaikohe Town Board, made reference to the fine work which Mr Hutton had done. The district was losing a citizen whom it would find very hard to replace. , Replying, Mr Hutton said that although he had the greatest regret at having to leave the district, he thought tfiat he needed a change, and that the district would profit by his departure, in that a new headmaster brought new ideas. As a token of the high esteem Mr Hutton enjoys in the district, Mr Cameron concluded the evening with a presentation, to Mr Hutton from the residents.
