TREMENDOUS RAINFALL
PARENGARENGA INUNDATION, 6.75 INCHES IN FOUR DAYS. The- exceedingly heavy rainfall of three weeks ago has transformed the appearance of the country. Feed abounds everywhere, especially, in the coastal areas. The Maoris, unfortunately, lost a considerable area of kumeras during the floods. No less than 6.75 inches of rain, fell in four days. Messrs. BlackbuVn and Findlay, of the Native Department, paid a visit of inspection to the Maori land development work at the week-end. They expressed themselves as pleased with the progress made.
Mr G. J. Rust, who for the past six years has been' head teachef at the Te Hapua Native Schol, has been appointed to the Native School at Parawera, Waikato, and takes up duty there after the vacation.
Mr W. Cade, postmaster at Kaitaia, paid an official visit to Te Hapua recently in. connection with postal business.
The Maoris of the Parengarenga district have forwarded', through Colonel Allen Bell, an invitation to the new Native Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, to visit them at the earliest convenient opportunity, anjd personally view the various problems confronting them.
Judge Acheson, of the Tokerau Native Land Board, is visiting Te Kao. He proposes to visit Te Hapua in, February to finalise the Native Land' Consolidation.
