MAORI CHILDREN’S DEATHS JURY AWARDS £lloo. [Per Press Association. — Copyright. 3 WELLINGTON, This Day. ' Four Maori children.,ranging in age from three weeks to two years, were plaintiffs in an action for £2OOO heard in the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and a jury. The children were suing, on behalf of their mother and guardian, Weku Weku Waaka, in respect of'the death of their father, Lorraine Enoka, arising out of a collision in which Enoka received fatal injuries. Defendant was Miss Jean Catherine Dallas, of Wellington. The accident happened in the early hours of February 10 between Paekakariki and Paraparaumu, Enoka was on a motor cycle and defendant was driving a car. The allegation was that defendant unskilfully drove and managed the car, with the result that it collided with Enoka’s motor cycle. The defence alleged that deceased was entirely responsible for the accident. A verdict of £IOOO was awarded by the jury. The Chief Justice ordered that the amount should be held in trust by the Public Trustee for the maintenance of the children.
