TRAFFIC BREACHES
MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT. MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT. l VARYING OFFENCES. A number of traffic breaches were dealt with at the Whangarei Police Court this morning, before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M. Reginal Devereaux was fined £2 and costs 12/ on a charge of not having two independent brakes on his vehicle' and failing to stop within the required distance. The inspector said Devereaux had no brakes of any kind. Ralph Fyfe was fined 30/ and costs 12/ on a similiar charge. The inspector said Fyfe took 90 feet to pull up. Mr Hewitt: “That is a bit better than having no brakes at all.” Tapper Brothers (Mr A. M. Woods) pleaded guilty to two charge of operating a heavy motor vehicle at Ruatangata without a heavy traffic license. Mr Woods said the fact that the license was due had been overlooked.' The license was taken out next day. A fine of 10/ and costs 12/ in each case, was imposed. Gilbert Henry Mair was fined 10/ and costs 10/ for having no tail light. Heyber Matheson charged with passing another vehicle at an intersection was fined £1 and costs 12/.
George Thornton, for driving a car in a manner, which having regard to all the circumstances might have been dangerous to the public was fined £1 and costs 13/. On a similar charge, Norman Murray Newbold wan fined £2 and costs 10/. The Borough Inspector said Newbold travelled at 40 miles per hour past two schools on his motor cycle. Sydney Oldcorn was fined £2 and costs on a similar charge. Constable Norris said Oldcorn passed over the Hospital Road intersection at an estimated speed of 35 miles per hour. There was no other traffic about. Oldcorn suggested that his old truck and high pressure tyres throwing out road chips might have given an impression of greater speed. He did not think he was driving in a manner dangerous to the public.
