METHODIST QUARTERLY

MEETING.

The Methodist quarterly meeting was held on Wednesday last,-Rev. Gordon Parker presiding. As a change from the ordinary procedure, a morning session was held, and luncheon was provided by the ladies, business being concluded in the afternoon. Membership was reported at 77 senior members, 1 37 junior, and 36 infant members, which is the same as last quarter., On behalf of the officials, a cordial welcome was tendered to the Rev. Gordon Parker, who presided for the first lime. ' ... Mr E. A. Fenwick reported on the work of the Papafoa Sunday School. A larger attendance was desired, and the co-operation of parents was hoped for. The annual Home Mission appeal was reported in progress. Mrs Metcalfe’s canvass at Matakohe had so far raised £6, and canvassers will be operating in other circuit centres. Mr T. Wilson presented the balance sheet for the quarter. The special canvass fcr subscriptions, combined with the “Rainbow Fair,” organised by the ladies of the circuit, had been successful in reducing the overdraft to £33 5/-, and a sum of £3 5/-promised was still to come. The meeting resolved to continue the effort to wipe out the overdraft of approximately £ 100, and a sub-committee consisting of Messrs. T. Wilson, J. H. Thomson,, and E. T. Birtles was appointed. ; .It was resolved to request Mr J. H. Trcunson to give one of his popular “poets’ evenings,” under the auspices cf the 1 Paparca Bible Class during the ensuing quarter. It was also resolved to arrange a welcome to Deaconess M. Ellison, who is appointed to take charge of the Maori deaconess work in this area.
