BULLOCK BLINDED
THREE MONTHS FOR CRUELTY. At the Police Court at Kaitaia on Friday, H. Wahi was charged with cruelty to an animal, the offence consisting in shooting a bullock in the head with a shotgun. It was stated by Constable Thornell that the defendant found a working bullock in his kumera patch and shot it in the head, blinding it in both eyes. The bullock must have suffered a great deal of pain between the time it was shot and the time it was destroyed. Defendant had the name of being very cruel with animals, and had previously been convicted of theft. The magistrate said the case was a bad one, and he sentenced accused to three months imprisonment in Mount Eden Gaol.
