NORTHERN CRICKET

MANGONUI ASSOCIATION. .ANNUAL MEETING HELD. ONE SELECTOR FOR NORTH OPPOSED. The annual meeting of the Mangonui Cricket Associatioix attracted delegates from four clubs to Victoria Valley on Tuesday evening. The clubs represented were Kaitaia, Valley, Takahue and Eastern Area. In the absence of the Mr R. H. Kelly was elected to the chair. The secretary, Mr J. Dawson, said it was evident from the full muster of delegates that cricket in the Mangonui County had taken on a new lease of life. The last full meeting of the association was in Peria in 1932. Last year the competitions ended after two games. However, the representative matches played were very satisfactory. There was a distinct possibility of a strong Auckland team coming North this season. In all probability there will be three senior and four jxxnior teams. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of 17/3.

The report and balance sheet were adopted. ,

The election of. officers resulted: — Patron, Mr L. J. Matthews; president, Mr H. H. Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. White, W. Treacher, P. Yendell, A. Wright, P. W. Lambly and W. Farrirhond; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Dawson; hon. auditor, Mr W. Thompson; selectors, Messrs. F. Panther, R, H. Kelly and S. Wrathall; delegate to the North Auckland Association, Mr R. J. Dunn. It was decided to leave the selection of the captain of the rep. teams in the hands of the selectors.

All club games are to commence at 10 a.m. and stumps are to be drawn at 4' p.m. _ It was decided to open the competition on November 17.. The secretary was instructed to write to the IJJorth Auckland Association for a copy of the rules governing the Dargaville Shield and also for the shield itself. It was left in the hands of the various clubs to arrange their senior and junior teams.

It was left to the secretax*y to make the necessary arrangements with regard to the visit of a team from Auckland,

Mr Kelly said he was strongly opposed to the principle of having a sole selector for the North Auckland district. It was impossible for one man to do justice to thd players in outlying districts. On the motion of Mr Kelly, the secretary was instructed to inform the North Auckland Association that it disapproved of the principle of having a sole selector.

A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr A. E. Panther was passed, members standing in silence.

The meeting decided that the fix’st representative match of the season should be played in Kaitaia. The following is the draw for the first round of the competitions:— Senior. —November 17, Kaitaia v. Valley at Valley; .Eastern Area, a bye. November 24: Valley v. Eastern at East; Kaitaia, a bye.
