TAKAHIWAI

HALL SHIFTED. Residents of Takahiwai who are working at Waipu and Tauraroa, were present at the most important dance of the year, the last held in the Takahiwai Hall on the old site. The school children and Master Jack Chetham contributed items, and dancing followed. The next week was devoted to preparing the hall for its trip into another paddock, a few chains away. The interior of the hall, to prevent strain, was elaborately buttressed. The climax of the operations came when thirteen pairs of bullocks were yoked up to do the pulling. Three times the chain broke, but eventually the hall of 22 years’ standing =began to move off. There are to be two doors, one cut in the blank wall which was hitherto the back. The Rev. Te Paa conducted a service at the home of Mr Taurau Paki, there being a large number of. visitors. A spirited address, though informal, was delivered at the close of the service proper, A particular urge was made for the instruction of children.
