' DEPARTMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS. j ; ______ 1 Inquiries were made by the Kaitaia Chamber of Commerce with the General Manager of Railways in regard to the possibility of utilising rail coaches on branch railway lines, especially on the Otiria-Okaihau section. ! A reply has been received stating that the Department was at present looking into the possibility of obtaining a unit suitable for New Zealand requirements, and thorough investigations were being made regarding the i potentialities of such units in localities ! suitable for their use. j Information concerning the various i types of rail-cars was at present in ! the hands of the officers conducting I the investigations, and could not be jmade available to the chamber, which, j however, could rest assured that the ! question of placing the rail-car on the Otiria-Okaihau branch line would not be overlooked, and would receive due consideration.
