CANADIAN AIRMEN’S FLIGHT,

NON-STOP RECORD ATTEMPT FAILS. BAGDAD PLAN ABANDONED. (Received 10.r.D a.m;) LONDON, August 9. •Captain Leonard Reid and Captain James Ayling, who took off from Wasf'ga .beach, Ontario, at "j. 12 a.m. Eastern standard time, yesterday, to cross the Atlantic, and, if conditions were favourable, to make an attempt on the nun-step record to Bagdad, passed ever Stag Lane aerodrome at p.m. and landed at Heston at G. 7 p.m. The, airmen flew 0,700 miles in 30 hours 51 minutes, including GOO miles of blind flying, after which they saw the Irish coast through a mist of clouds. The abandonment of their attempt on the record was due to the freezing of the carburettor, resulting in the loss of petrol.
