MONSTER GYMKHANA
PROGRAMME FINALISED. VARIED ATTRACTIONS. £4OO IN PRIZES. Originally intended for Labour Day, the gymkhana which is being promoted by the Wliangarei A. and P. Society, in association with ‘ local sporting bodies, will now be a monster gala extending over the holiday week-end. The occasion promises to bo one of the most spectacular ever staged in Northland and offering something for all tastes. The programme was finalised at a largo and enthusiastic meeting held at the A. and P. Society’s office last evening, and presided over by Mr T. Griffin. The necessary permits, etc., will be procured as soon as possible, and full details of the programme will bo printed and circulated without unnecessary delay. Visiting Bands. The band contests will be conducted under the auspices of the Auckland Provincial Association of Brass Bands, and it is expected that at least six organisations will bo taking part. A feature will be a quickstep competition, following a massed parade on the (Saturday evening. On Sunday there will be a. hymn contest. Tug of War. Tug-of-war competitions for light and heavyweight teams, six aside, will be another attraction on the (Saturday evening. The pulls 'will be on the sudden death principle. The Big Day. Monday, Labour Day, will offer an immensely varied selection of entertainment, the attractions including:— Ring events. —Flag race; tilting at ring (children —primary); light hunter; bending race; heavy hunter, potato race (children); walk, trot, gallop; 3 open hunter; wrestling- on horseback; musical chairs (children): musical ] chairs (open); ’draught horse race. i (lady rider). Amateur athletics (handicaps).— * 100 yards, 220 yards, SSO yards, 2 ( miles, hop step and jump, long jump, c high jump. Boys under IS: .100 yards, SSO yards. Boys under 16: 100 yards, SSO yards. Girls under 17: 76 yards. Girls under 15: 76 yards. t Ladies: 100 vards. v
Exhibiton of javelin throwing and a half-mile walk by loading Dominion exponents. Cash athletics.—TOO yards handicap, 440 yards handicap, I mile, high jump. Chopping.—l2-inch standing, 14-iuch underhand, saw, Motor cycle events, —-Obstacle race, miniature T.T., glass smashing, bucking matilda, trick riding, long jump. Motor car events.—Potato race, slow top gear race, balloon race, apple picking, egg and spoon race, scaled orders. Decorated vehicles.—Trade motor, trade horse vehicle, private motor car, decorated pony, decorated bicycle, decorated motor cycle. In the evening there will be a wrestling tournament of seven bouts, and five boxing bouts. The prize money competitors in the gymkhana will bo in the vicinitv of £4OO.
