IN DISTRESS

KAWAKAWA GREEN FLOODED. ASSISTANCE FROM BOWLERS. Methods of aiding the Kawakawa Bowling Club wore discussed at the annual meeting of the North Auckland Centre on, Wednesday night. Air T. H. Steadman, in his annual report, said that the funds of the •Centre were primarily for assisting elub in sparsely populated areas to carry on. Such an emergency had arisen at Kawakawa, where the green had been practieolly destroyed. It would have afforded the Centre a groat opportunity of exercising its function for the benefit of that club if the Centro had been in funds’. Floods, which have happened three times previously to his knowledge, would happen again, and the Kawakawa -Club might have to take that Into eonsidcration when deciding to restore the green In its present situation, or to move to one which will not be subject to the possibility of another visitation. The retiring president appealed to the brother bowlers of other clubs to eome forward with some assistance for Kawakawa. The Russell Club wrote on similar lines, and Haifaia .stated that a sub-

Kcrijitirm list had been opened through out the Auckland province.

Air C. V. Stringer suggested a levy of ;id per member.

Air AV. ('. Conic: “Have we any information Hint. I lie club is to continue'? We should give something, .but we do not know whether they have a balance of £2 or £201).“

Mr A. IT. Curtis said that after the first flood Mr lluyton had visited Kawakawa, and advised how the £2o which the dull stated was all it had available, could be most profitably spent. The work was done, but was washed away in the next heavy rain. Mr S. d. Woods was inclined to think that the Kawakawa Domain Board, which had laid down the green now destroyed, would come to the assistance of the Kawakawa Club again, but a new site would have to be chosen. Mr Steadman: “The man who gives quickly gives twice. It is necessary to help within the next fortnight or so, or nothing can be accomplished this season. ” Inquiries are to be made immediately into the a flairs of the club, with a view to rendering assistance if necessary.
