IN THE DROUGHT AREA
MINISTER ON TOUR INVESTIGATION PROPOSAL (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) BLENHEIM, This Day. In response to the telegram sent yesterday by Mr E. F. Hcaly, M.P. for Wairau, the Minister for Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, arrived by the Tamahine last evening to inspect the effect of the prolonged drought on the district, and to discuss irrigation and stock water supply schemes. The Minister was welcomed on his arrival. He proceeds to the Awatere district, while Friday will be devoted to the Wairau Plains. Last evening Mr Ransom had an informal discussion with the Progress League concerning w r ater schemes it was sponsoring. In Ms telegram to Mr Ransom and the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. Bitchener, Mr Hcaly emphasised the deplorable conditions in Marlborough resulting from practically four dry years, and urged the Ministers to visit the district immediately.
