At the Southland swimming championships, held last night, Clare Lynch broke the New Zealand record for the' 50 yards junior girls- breaststroke event, covering the distance in 40 2/5 sec.' The previous record war 41sec. Dorothy Symon broke the record ’for the 50 yards junior girls’ free style event, her time being 30 1/5 sec.,! l/ssec. lower than the existing, record. Miss A. W. Wesney and Miss N. Basstian were selected to represent Southland at the New Zealand championships.
