MANGAPAI PIONEER
late mr s. McAllister. LOSS To'DISTRICT. INTERMENT YESTERDAY. Profound regret was felt throughout the Springfield district at the news of the death of Mr S. McAllister, Mangapai, the deceased gentleman having been' a valued friend of many years’ standing to all the older settlors; also his loyal service to the Valley, particularly in the days of bad roads anA difficult communication, had eased the struggle for many people. It took very bad weather to prevent the store waggon coming through, and the regular delivery of mail and goods was an inestimable boon. Many ah act of kindness and consideration, especially in cgses of sickness and trouble, performed by Mr McAllister and his family, will long be remembered. The funeral, which took place yesterday, was one of the largest ever held in the Mangapai district. The esteem and respect in' which deceased was held was made very clear, people from all the surrounding districts, Maungakaramea, Waikiekie, Mata, Springfield, Whangarei, and beyond, being present in large numbers. Mr M. J. Byrt, of Taumarunui, an old friend of the family, came North to conduct the funeral service and also the service at the church, and he spoke eloquently of the sorrow felt by all at the loss of a .valued friend. There were many beautiful floral emblems laid on the grave. The interment took place at the Mangapai cemetery.
