R. C. Michell (Britain) defeated Miss Barbara Stoddard (New York), G—l, G—3.
RIVALRY AT NEWPORT LEE ELIMINATES TIDBALL (Received 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, August li). The feature of the opening day of the Casino tennis tourney at Newport, Rhode Island, to-day, was the straight set elimination of Jack Tidball (United States inter-collegiate champion), by H. G. IT. Lee (Britain). Ted Avery (Britain) also advanced, but seven other British competitors were defeated.
