GOOD SAVE
FIRE IN KAMO ROAD LARGE HOUSE DAMAGED. BRIGADE’S SMART WORK. A brilliant save was made by the Whangarei Fire Brigade at about 1.30 o’clock this afternoon, when a fire was discovered in a 12-roomed house owned by Mr H. E. Worsp in Kamo Road. By the time the brigade had arrived the flames had obtained a good hold and were spreading rapidly. Some 900 feet of hose had to be run out, as the house stands well back from the road on a small hill, but with good pressure, the outbreak was under control within a few minutes.
It is understood that the fire started in the wash-house, which adjoins the rear of the building, where soap-mak-ing operations were in progress. Y Mr Worsp is absent in Auckland, and at the time of the outbreak Mrs Worsp and a. gardener were the only' people on the property. The fire was first noticed by Mr F. Wakelin and the brigade was speedily notified.
The wash-house was extensively damaged and the wall and interior of the room adjoining. The ceilings of two rooms were slightly damaged, and some of the furnishings in other rooms were affected by smoke. A good deal, of the contents of the house was moved into the garden as soon as the outbreak was noticed. The insurances are not available, in the absence of Mr Worsp.
