BUTTER MARKETING
FREE HAND DESIRED RETENTION OF AGENTS MOVE AT HIKURANGI. NORTHERN ASSOCIATION CONTEMPLATED. At the meeting of directors of the Ilikurangi Dairy Company, hold on Tuesday, the following resolution was carried unanimously:— r “That this company support I whole-heartedly any movement to form a free marketing association of those dairy companies which value their freedom to handle their own marketing by themselves individually, consigning or selling their dairy produce to whom they think fit, the object being to take in association any local steps which may be necessary to keep this right inviolate.”
There is a move afoot by several companies hi Northland to form a free marketing association to oppose definitely the recommendations made by the British importers, at the request of the New Zealand Dairy Control Board. Though some companies are truly consignment concerns, they still wish t) retain the right of choosing what agents they think fit. They consider that there is a big section of the trade in England which prefers to purchase butter f.o.b. in Auckland on the same lines as wool, meat and lamb is purchased, and that these requirements will always have to bo catered for. It is understood that a mooting will be hold in .the North shortly for the purpose of forming a free marketing association, to link up with other factories in the Dominion who desire to retain their individual rights, rather than have their selling agents qombv ated by the Control Board.
