LEAGUE RUGBY

WEST COASTERS ON TOUR WELLINGTON TROUNCED. TWENTY-NINE TO TEN. (Por Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day.

The West Coast Rugby League team opened its Northern tour by giving the Wellington representative thirteen a lesson in how the game should be played, the visitors scoring an easy victory by 20 points to .10. The weather was bitterly cold, and this no doubt accounted largely for the fact that there were only 200 spectators. West Coast completely dominated the play in the first spell, and at half-time led by IS points to 0, Masters, Bcbau, Calder and iO’Brien scored and Dnddo converted three of the tries. The Wellington team showed no combination, but tackled resolutely, and this served to check many of the attacking movements by the speedy West Coast side. It was expected that the Wellington team would make a fight of it in the second spell, with the breeze beliin I them, but it-o sooner had the game resumed than the West Coast team electri (led the spectators with a dazzling din play of passing which bewildered the home side and ended up in Newton scoring close to the post. Dodds added the extra, points. Todd, the Wellington centre threequarter, cleverly intercepted a pass, and amid great excitement ran three parts the leiigth of the field to score between the posts. Simons had no difficulty in converting. This stirred the Southerners and they reached the Wellington line with a burst of brisk passing, which ended in O’Brien scoring his second try. Dovenport failed to convert. From a scrum Jenkins scored and Todd goalod. Just before the game ended West, Coast launched a strong offensive and OfConnor went over for a try. Devonport failed to convert.
