DISARMAMENT STEPS

IMPORTANT DECISIONS GERMANY’S MILITARY FORCES. EFFECTITE CONSTTTUENTS. “GREEN POLICE” INCLUDED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.in.) GENEVA, May 2.

Important decisions affecting GormanyVs military strength Avere reached by the Effective Committee of the Disarmament Conference last evening by twelve votes to three.

It declared that the 38,000 officers and men of the Prussian Police Force, known as the “Green Police,” must, be included in the 200,000 effectives proposed to be permitted to Germany under the British plan. An American representative, Colonel Strong, voted against the inclusion of this clause, probably because the United States National Guard and State Constabulary might be considered as being in the same category. He said Germany required an effective police force, the members of which, although they Avere trained on the military plan, should not be regarded as soldiers. The committee also decided by seven votes to six that the Nazis auxiliary special constabulary, formed from the Brown Shirts organisation, could not be considered part of the effective armed forces.
