PROVINCIAL CHAMPION. B. M. SILK WINNER. (Special to "Northern Advocate."! AUCKLAND, This Day. This year’s Auckland provincial gold medal champion is B. M. Silk, of Wanganui, who, in the final at 'Middlemore yesterday, defeated R. D. Horton, of the Auckland Club, 2 and I. A good start saw Silk take the first hole in four, and, outplaying Horton, take ’the lead 2 up at the fourth. Despite a pushed-out drive at the fifth, Silk was well on in two. Horton under-clubbed his second, but after a good recovery saw his opponent hold a longish putt for a win and to be three up. Horton missed a greaX chance at the sixth, and only halved, and after Silk had taken three putts on the seventh, it also was halved. At the eighth, however, no, holed the putt for a three, and yras 4 (ip.
Laying a stymie to Silk at the n.iiith, Horton won his first hole, and by correct play retrieved another at' the tenth. By the thirteenth Silk was only 1 up, but Horton duffed his approach to the fourteenth and Silk won another. Horton won the sixteenth.
At the seventeenth both reached the \ guarding hunkers with their seconds, and in trying to chip dead, Horton failed to get out first time, and Silk took the hole and the match, 2 and 1.
The final of the provincial handicap was Avon by T. E. Clark, who beat M. Hussey, in the final, on the nineteenth green.
In the morning bogey match J. H. I oung and E.,6. Callis were each 2 .up, and the play off was Avon by Young. R. G. Rainger and A. J. Friedlander, and A. Shorter and F, -, C. Paine, Avero both six up, in the afternoon four-ball, the play off being Avon by Shorter and Paine.
