ELLSWORTH PLANS
FLIGHT OVEJJ SOUTH POLE. GEOGRAPHICAL QUEST. . (Received 9 a.m.) NEW YORK,-September 13. Mr Lincoln Ellsworth arrived in New York from-Europe today.- • He announced that the plans for his projected flight across’ the Antarctic continent havb'-progressed so far that he expects to start in the autumn of 1933, accompanied by Mr Bert Balchen, air pilot. The explorers will take off from the Rbss ; Seav and fly ; 2,900 miles over the South Pole to the Weddell Sea. Mr Ellsworth said many geographers be lieve tfie Ross 'and Weddell Seas cut into tlie‘Continent, making two islands. His purpose is purely geographical, to determine if there are two islands dr if the Antarctic is merely one island.
