PRINCESS VICTORIA DEAD

EX-KATSER’S SISTER

UNHAPPY MARRIAGE

GRIEF ACCELERATES END

(Received 12. Ml p.m.) BERLIN, November U!

The death took place today, from iu,lamination of the lungs, of Princess Victoria, the ex-Kaiser’s eldest sister, who was unhappily wed to a Russian •ivilian, M. Zoubkoff, divorce proceedlugs having been recently instituted on behalf of the Princess.

The Princess died bankrupt, within a week of serving the divorce papers. M. Zoubkoff is held largely responsible for the tragic end, which was due to pneumonia, bur was accentuated by grief.

There were no relatives present, merely a few personal attendants.

The Princess became more or less unconscious yesterday morning and did not rally. * Her last words were spoken in the English language, which she used whenever possible. The end, which, came after hours of suffering, was peaceful.

The Grand Duchess of Hesse, the ex-Kaiser’s second sister, who was called for the first time on Sunday, remained the whole of Monday when there was a reconciliation .after the separation paused 'by the Princess Victoria’s unfortunate marriage. In the last day or two the ex-Kaiser, who was outraged by the events, relented and made frequent telephonic inquiries. The doctors stated that the exKaiser would have visited her but for political obstacles.

From washing dishes in a Berlin restaurant Zoubkoff, who is 30 years old, went to Bonn to visit relatives and there made the acquaintance of the ex-Kaiser’s sister, Victoria, then 01 years old. She became infatuated with the Russian and against the wishes of Wilhelm married him on November 20, 15127. The pair sot off on their honeymoon on a. motorcycle, A fortnight later Zoubkoff was seriously injured by being thrown from his machine. Extraordinary rumours as to his conduct appeared in the German Press, but the truth of these was repeatedly denied by the Princess. In February, 1028, the couple arrived at Berlin, where they proposed to settle. As the result of a violent scene in a night bar, where Zoubkoff savagely assaulted an attendant who had displeased him, he was taken to a police station for examination. Next day he was lined £25 for living in Germany without a permit. Since then he has been living at various places outside Germany. His extravagance resulted in the bankruptcy of his wife, whoso property at Bonn recently was sold at auction.
