A message from Cairns states that cultivation of sugarcane on a. large scale in Papua is contemplated by a syndicate of Cairns and New Guinea business men, who are arranging to acquire 20,000 acres to supply a mill in the northern division of Papua. The syndicate proposes to produce sugar to compete in the world’s market with the produce of other darklabour countries.
