PRESERVING FLOWERS

To preserve the colours in flowers, mosses, etc., for mounting, it is necessary that they should be pressed immediately they are gathered. Place the specimens between two sheets of blotting paper, and put these between two boards, with as level surfaces as it is possible to obtain, on the top of which stand heavy weights, and let them remain there until the whole of the moisture is squeezed out of the plants; then mount them. They must be kept in a place that is perfectly dry, or they will soon fade.
