WHANGAREI HARBOUR STATISTICS.

SECRETARY AND TREASURER'S REPORT. Mr J. McKinnon, secretary and treasurer to the Whangarei Harbour Board, presented the following report to the monthly meeting of the board yesterday:: — The shipping of the port in the month of January last was of less volume than for the corresponding month last year. The estimated registered tonnage of ships entering the harbour was 38,500, as against 22,171, a decrease of 4671. The number of vessels clearing the port was 70, as against 103, a decrease of 24.

With reference to the cargo returns, these show an improvement for January of this year, the exports being 11,230 tons, as against 9229, an increase of 2007. The imports also show an increase of 135 tons, being 1552 for the first month of the current year, as against 1417 for January, 1925. The cash receipts taken for January of this year amounted to £950 5s 2d, as against £llOs 10s 3d for January of last year, a decrease of £209 5s Id. This shrinkage is brought about by the claims for port charges being delayed until February. It is anticipated that the receipts for February will show a marked improvement over January 's figures. The accounts recommended by the Finance Committee today for payment amount to £1152 13s 9d. After pro viding these accounts, the General Fund will be in credit to the extent of £SI9S 0s 3d, and the current Loan Account will also have a credit balance of £2lßl 15s lid, with £23,000 on fixed deposit.
