AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY.
(Received 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, February 17.
The Berlin correspondent of ' the “Times” reports thot Dr. Josef Schumacher claims that by using new . staining methods ho has isolated a cancer bacillus, which is present in enormous quantities in- cancerous tissues, of which it forms one-tenth of the bulk. It is never present in healthy tissue. The great mass of the baeeilus was found on a dividing line between diseased and normal tissues. It advanced into healthy tissuelike a wall. Dr, Schumacher has not yet made cullurea of the bacillus, which is of fairly large spiral formation, with thickened ends. The bacillus cannot live in an organism the lymphatic system of which is healthy. Dr. .Schumacher expresses the opinion that ultra-violet ray treatment will bo beneficial. —‘ ‘ Times. ’ ’
