TRADE COMPACT
CANADA AND AUSTRALIA CONTiSMATOitT VOTE. I GOVERNMENT SOLIDLY SUPPORTED. (Received 9.3 a.m;) OTTAWA, February 16. The Conservative amendment to the Address-in-Repiy re trade treaties was defeated in the House of Commons by a vote of’ 118 ia 108; The amendment caused considerable discussion on the recent trade agreement with Australia. The Goyernjnent received the solid support of the Liberal, Progressive and Labour groups. Just before the vote the Conservative leader, Mr. Meigheu, declared that the treaty exposed practically all the farming population of Canada to unlimited competition from a country 'which was almost the largest exporter of meat in the- world and one of the greatest exporters of dairy products.— Reuter.
