The death is announced in Sydney of Mr. J. Birt, a Labour member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. A Sydney cablegram reports that Mr. A. C. Willis has resigned the secretaryship of the Coalmiilers' Federation on account of his appointment to the Legislative Council of New South Wales. Word was received in Whangarei this afternoon of a notable success on the part of nurses at the Whangarei Hospital. Four of the Annexe nurses recently sat for the State examination in midwifery, and all .have passed, namely, .Nurses Muriel White, Hilda Williams, Margaret Campbell and Joyce Bindon.
